Midnight Commander (looking for lib)

Postby GrBear » Tue Feb 19, 2002 1:04 am

I'm having problems getting this gem to run.

I've installed the mentioned libs, including gettext-0.10.39, libiconv-2.0.4, ncurses-5.2 and glib-1.2.10 (for good measure).

When I run gmc, it gives me the error:

dyld: gmc can't open library: /usr/local/lib/libgnorba.27.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

I'm having exactly the same problem.

I'd be very happy if someone could enlighten us with this problem.

As mentioned in the midnight commander entry here at macosx.forked.net I just downloaded and installed the gettext and the libiconv libs besides the mc package.
Where do you, GrBear, have the info from that the additional packages you mention are nedded, too?

Bye,
Stefan.

Runs on Terminal (function keys only suppported in glterm) or X (withh mouse)

Hmhm,
I looked up what "gmc" could possibly mean. But the best explanation was gnu-midnight-commander.

Could you please explain the meaning of gmc ?
thanks

nobody@loopback.. I really appreciate your help on this. I have a quick question for you. I'm still trying to compile my own version (being inquisitive *grins*). I'm wondering how you managed to get around the error while doing a ./configure.

I get the error:

configure: WARNING: could not determine how to read list of mounted fs
configure: checking how to get filesystem space usage...

The ./configure does complete, though when I go to make it, make always errors out in vfs.c which is where it choked during the previous step.

I just make a quick check if i am still able to compile mc:
- downloaded mc-4.5.55.tar.gz
- decompressed the sources
- run:
./configure --with-x --with-vfs --with-samba --without-subshell
- make
compiled, the resulting mc seems to work fine.

I really dont know what the problem is in your special case, could you post the exact error message?

I've also installed the mc from here. I also get the error of this
missing libgnorba.27.dylib. Where can I get it from? Thanks.

It must be something related to gnome. I dont have gnome installed, so I dont have any knowledge about this library.
But you could do a search in your filesystem if the library maybe is elsewhere (in case of fink maybe in /sw/lib ... or otherwise install gnome and then try again to locate the library.

Hello Everybody,
can anyone explain how to get X11R6 to work on Darwin/OSX?

If I try to run Midnight Commander I get:
dyld: mc can't open library: /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.6.dylib (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

Obviously X11R6 is not present, but I can't seem to find what I need. Partly because I don't know exactly what it is I need.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
Midnight Commander rules and I'd like to get it to work.

thanx,
P.

Hi there,

install the package "x11-shlibs" (sudo apt-get install x11-shlibs) then it works.

To use the function keys (e.g. F10), press the apple key with the function key.
