Make sure you have glib, gtk, and xfree86 installed. Make sure xfree86 is running. From a terminal in xfree86,start xchat.

I was wondering, I downloaded xchat (I have gimp, xf86, a window manager, gtk, etc)

And xchat compile gives me lots of errors about gtk:
<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">code:</font><hr><pre>
checking for gtk-config... (cached) /usr/local/bin/gtk-config
checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.0... no
*** Could not run GTK test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK was incorrectly installed
*** or that you have moved GTK since it was installed. In the latter case, you
*** may want to edit the gtk-config script: /usr/local/bin/gtk-config

Cannot find GTK! Not building GTK FrontEnd.
</pre>[/quote]

Well, I don't think I want xchat with out a gui ;-)

I tried using fink, btw, but fink complains that I don't have zilb, xf86, gtk, etc. And I can't figure out how to explain to fink where all that is.

Ans suggestions on my gtk probs? Thanks, and keep up the great work on this site.
